seriously, why use anything else?
after testing out the new beta, the first thing that hits you is the noticeable speed difference. it's really fast. and because i don't feel like summing up what the other sites are saying, i'll just quote this tidbit from TGDaily.
・chrome was fun, but it's featureless, and like a lot of Google's products, forever in beta.
・IE is old news and will forever remain a dinosaur in the browser world.
・safari is meh for me, and i've never used opera.
anyways, for those of you who are reluctant to switch over because of add-on compatibility, there is one way to get around that.
1. open up Firefox 3.1b and type "about:config" into the address bar
2. right click and select New>Boolean
3. enter "extensions.checkCompatibility" for the preference name
4. set it to false
this will allow you to use most of your 3.0 add-ons.

The first public beta of Firefox 3.1 offers a handful of new features such as a 3D preview during tab switching, location awareness, better compliance with web standards and much improved JavaScript performance. Additional features planned for the beta 2 include a new privacy browsing mode, an Opera-like Speed Dial feature, improved private data deletion and URL bar tweaks.

anyone else have a tumblelog at tumblr?
i wish i had learned of it sooner because it fits exactly the type of blogging format that's easiest for me. imagine a beast who feasts on your random thoughts, links you find, ramblings, rants, videos, photos, RSS/ATOM's, etc..., and poops it all out in one nice chronological blog feed--that's pretty much what a tumblelog is. (just for fun, wiki describes tumblelogs as a variation of blogs that favor "short-form, mixed-media posts over the longer editorial posts frequently associated with blogging," but i like my description more because it has a beast that poops.)
anyways you can check out my tumblr here.
in other news, i'm currently testing out Google's new browser, Chrome. so far it's pretty good. i have long waited for the day that FireFox would incorporate dynamic tabs that could be dragged out and in, but they've gone and let Google beat them to it. FireFox still wins as an overall browser because of its ability to use third-party plugins and extra features while still being fast, but Chrome's simple design and performance might actually win me over. as far as speed goes, tests show that FireFox and Chrome are pretty much neck and neck, so there's no noticable difference when accessing websites, but i'm hoping that Google will fix Chrome's memory consumption to match FireFox's because my laptop is noticably hotter while running Chrome as compared to long bouts of FireFox.

all in all, after about a day of using Chrome, i can say that i'm pleasantly surprised at the great job Google has done creating such a powerful browser still in its beta form. i'll continue using it until i begin to miss FireFox, but i don't think it'll happen as quickly as it did when i was trying out safari. that browser hurt my eyes.
